My attempt at a Rowland Hilder painting.

Harold Williams my teacher at the Spalding art group, first introduced me to Rowland Hilder by way of showing me a book full of very striking paintings, (I now have almost all his books) A very prolific painter and illustrator with a unique style.

I am  hopefully  going to do a series of his paintings on half imperial sheets. this is a big shift in my watercolour journey as I have been doing 1/8 sheet paintings mostly.

  3. The following piece is from an artist By the name of Bill Guffey who has a website devoted to using Google streetview as inspiration for painting virtual en plein air. http://virtualpaintout.blogspot.

"I had numerous email and telephone conversations with Google attorneys and Maps Team members back in 2008 regarding my use of Street View images as reference material for drawings and paintings. We talked about my series of paintings I was working on, and the project I envisioned.

I asked for permission to use the images and the decision made was that all artists can use Street View images to create (and sell) drawings and paintings without fear of copyright infringement from Google.

In fact, I sold several large pieces to Google for their San Francisco and London offices, and sold a series of 51 paintings (one from each U.S. state and the District of Columbia) to an attorney for Google."

The Volcano is 25kilometres away and is 3000 metres high.

  5. Thanks to a handful of watercolourists I have had the inspiration to start watercolours again, these artists are Jem Bowden, Edo Hanemma, John Haywood and John Dee Harrison. None of whom I would ever be able to aspire to their levels but can only try.

This one is based on my meanderings through Willow tree fen Spalding.
